The chorus was founded under the premise that every individual voice, no matter how skilled or strong, brings a distinctive perspective to an ensemble. In forming a chorus that is developmentally, artistically and intellectually appropriate for young singers, we offer children an inclusive means of musically expressing themselves in an environment that affirms and celebrates the diversity and uniqueness of each child. We welcome young singers who wish to commit to learning about music and how their voice fits into the larger chorus.

The UNM Children's Chorus started in January of 2006 with just 13 singers. It is a non-auditioned chorus now serving more than 90 boys and girls in the Albuquerque metro area between the ages of 5 and 15. The chorus offers three age-level groups for children grades K-1, 2-4 and 5-10. Any child who wishes to sing is welcome.

The UNM Children's Chorus is housed within the UNM Music Prep School.
